My name is Jim Cessford, retired Chief of the Delta Police Department. I had the privilege of serving the people of Delta for more than 20 years alongside an exceptional team of police officers, civilian staff, volunteers, and most importantly, the community itself.

Together, we built a community-based policing model founded on partnership, trust, and collaboration. Our guiding philosophy was simple: “Doing it with the community, rather than to the community.” That approach helped make Delta one of the safest communities in Canada and earned the Delta Police Department a remarkable 97% public satisfaction rating across all city departments.

Melissa Granum, mayoral candidate for Delta First, played an important role in helping build that success. Over many years, she worked closely with both the department and the community to develop strategic plans that reflected the priorities, concerns, and values of Delta residents. Melissa understands that strong leadership begins with listening. She also understands the importance of fiscal responsibility and accountability.

Melissa worked closely with the department’s finance leadership in the development of departmental budgets and understands the need to balance sound financial management with effective public service delivery.

I worked alongside Melissa for 12 years, including through several serious and high-pressure situations that tested leadership, judgment, and resilience. During those times, Melissa demonstrated professionalism, integrity, calm decision-making, and the ability to lead while working collaboratively as part of a team.

Today, Delta needs responsible, accountable, and transparent leadership. We need experienced individuals with the vision, intelligence, and courage to move our community forward with fresh ideas and a renewed commitment to residents.

There is no question in my mind that Melissa Granum and the Delta First team are the best choice in this upcoming municipal election. They possess the experience, ethics, and practical leadership skills necessary to provide strong, responsible governance for the City of Delta.
