  • Strengthen transparency and accountability
    at City Hall
, drawing on decades of governance experience to build public trust in council processes.

  • Apply disciplined, long-term planning to city priorities, informed by her experience managing complex municipal budgets and strategic plans.

  • Foster a respectful, collaborative council culture, focused on problem-solving rather than polarization.

Currently, Melissa serves as Director of Board Governance at the BC Lottery Corporation, where she ensures BCLC’s Board of Directors operates effectively, complies with regulatory requirements, and follows governance best practices. In this role, she acts as a bridge between executive leadership, government expectations, and public accountability.

Council candidate

Alex FISCHER

A community advocate working to restore trust, strengthen Delta’s economy, and put residents back at the centre of City Hall

As a Delta City Councillor, Alex FISCHER will:

  • Attract business and investment into Delta so our city can build a stronger local economy, and create new opportunities for Deltans to prosper.

  • Assess Delta’s capital projects and community investments to ensure resources are directed where they are needed most across North Delta, Ladner, and Tsawwassen.

  • Support housing that works for builders, homeowners, and communities by helping create a clearer, more predictable system where people can build with confidence and residents are meaningfully involved.

  • Establish community advisory commissions with diverse representation, giving residents, local experts, and community leaders a stronger role in shaping the decisions that affect their neighbourhoods.

  • Rebuild trust in City Hall through greater transparency, accountability, and a renewed commitment to open, honest decision-making.

  • Stand firm for Delta’s interests when working with the Province, Metro Vancouver, and the Federal Government, ensuring Deltans are not left paying the price for decisions made elsewhere.

  • Take a strong but thoughtful approach to crime and public safety by supporting enforcement while also addressing the root causes that affect safety, disorder, and quality of life in our communities.

Alex brings nearly 15 years of experience across financial services, technology, business development, and digital communications. His background has given him practical experience in compliance, client service, lending, business relationships, technology adoption, and helping people navigate important financial and organizational decisions.

Alex has also spent years building communities, organizing people, and creating partnerships. From his work in business-to-business technology sales, to his leadership at UBC, to his advocacy through Delta Voices, Alex has worked across finance, technology, law, communications, and community organizing. He brings a broad understanding of how systems affect people’s lives, and a practical belief that local government must be transparent, responsive, and prepared for the future.

  • Coming from a working-class family, Alex began working after high school and started his career in technology sales before moving into business-to-business sales with Apple Inc. during a major period of growth. In that role, he worked directly with businesses to support technology adoption, training, implementation, and long-term client relationships, helping organizations integrate new tools into their operations. He later pursued his degree in Philosophy at UBC while serving as Vice President of the UBC Esports Association, where he helped secure sponsorships and partnerships with companies including BenQ, TELUS, Vitasoy, T&T Supermarket, Facebook, The Gaming Stadium, and others.

Alex also volunteered with the Innocence Project through UBC’s Allard School of Law, supporting work connected to those who had fallen through the cracks of the justice system. That experience strengthened his belief in accountability, fairness, and the importance of standing up for people who feel ignored or powerless.

For much of the last decade, Alex has worked in banking with a major financial institution, gaining experience in anti-money laundering, government compliance, lending, client service, and digital member banking.

As the founder of Delta Voices for Responsible Development, Alex has spent the last two years listening to residents, organizing public advocacy, speaking at meetings and public hearings, supporting letter-writing campaigns and petitions, and helping lead a 300+ person community rally at the South Delta Recreation Centre. Through Delta Voices and broader community pressure, residents helped contribute to City Council’s rejection of a proposed high-rise development in Tsawwassen Town Centre.

Alex’s commitment to public service is shaped by his family’s story. Growing up in an immigrant family, with a father who came to Canada as a refugee, he learned that hope is not passive. It is the belief in a better tomorrow, and the willingness to work for it. That belief guides his approach to public service: show up, listen, do the work, and never forget who you are there to serve.
