Delta First announces team for Delta City Council – a fresh, respectful and approachable alternative
Delta, BC – Today, a new civic team under the banner of “Delta First” announced its intention to run in the next municipal election, offering a clear vision for responsible, responsive, and community-focused leadership at City Hall. Delta First is committed to listening to residents, responding to local concerns, and managing public dollars carefully and openly to protect Delta’s quality of life both now and in the future.
Delta First brings together a group of independent candidates with broad professional expertise and long-standing community involvement across Delta.
Melissa Granum has stepped forward as the Delta First Mayoral candidate and is joined by council candidates Leah Bach, Tammy Hansen, and Jat Puri. Together, they are committed to reimagining leadership at City Hall and establishing a culture at the council table that acts with integrity, is service-oriented and collaborative.
“This group is about putting our community at the centre of every decision — not as a slogan, but as a standard. It means weighing every policy against one simple question: how does this improve the daily lives of the people we serve?” said Granum. “When our community is at the centre, decisions are grounded in lived experience.”
Former Attorney General, Wally Oppal has worked with Melissa Granum over the years and says, “Melissa has been successful in critical leadership roles and always remained steadfast in her commitments. She applies strategic thinking and maintains calm leadership during challenging times and knows how to keep a team moving forward together, for the good of the community.”
With the leadership of Granum, the Delta First team is stepping forward because it believes Delta is ready for a renewed approach — one that values professionalism, thoughtful debate, and meaningful engagement and consultation with residents.
Former Delta Police Chief Jim Cessford is endorsing the Delta First team saying, “I’ve worked alongside elected officials for decades, and I know the difference between a group that simply holds office and a team that truly leads. This council team will share a genuine desire to work collaboratively with residents, listen carefully, and make balanced decisions. Their commitment to Delta isn’t political it’s personal. It’s rooted in service, integrity and a genuine dedication to the community.”
Over the coming months, Delta First candidates will be actively listening to residents in Ladner, Tsawwassen, North Delta, and our farming and industrial communities to better understand their priorities and concerns. This engagement will help shape a comprehensive and responsive platform ahead of the October election.
