Delta First announces 90 Day Plan
Delta, BC – Delta First today announced its First 90 Days Plan, a clear roadmap to restore trust in local government, strengthen community engagement, and address the affordability challenges facing residents. The plan is built around three core priorities: Accountability, Liveability, and Affordability, and reflects Delta First’s commitment to transparent, responsive, and community-driven leadership.
“Residents have told us they want a council that listens, is transparent, and focuses on delivering results,” said Delta First mayoral candidate, Melissa Granum. “Our First 90 Days Plan is about rebuilding public trust, giving residents a stronger voice in decision- making, and ensuring City Hall is focused on the priorities that matter most to Delta families and businesses.”
Restoring Accountability at City Hall
Delta First will take immediate action to strengthen transparency and public confidence by:
Developing an enforceable Code of Conduct for elected officials.
Ending block voting on Council motions and encouraging independent decision-making by councillors.
Restoring public Question Period to provide residents direct access to elected officials.
Repealing the delegation of Development Permits and Variances to city staff, ensuring major decisions return to elected council.
Protecting Delta's Liveability
Delta First believes residents must have a meaningful voice in shaping the future of their community. Within the first 90 days, Delta First will:
Launch a public review of the Official Community Plan.
Begin a public review of the Ladner Village Revitalization Plan.
Re-establish Citizen Advisory Committees.
Conduct a legal review of provincial housing legislation and its implications for Delta.
Update tree management bylaws and improve design standards for new housing developments.
Review police and fire service resources to ensure they keep pace with population growth.
Tackling Affordability and Fiscal Responsibility
Recognizing the financial pressures facing residents, Delta First will focus on ensuring taxpayer dollars are spent wisely while supporting housing affordability by:
Initiating a Zero-Based Budget Review of City departments and City Council budgets.
Establishing clear, simple, and accessible public reporting on City finances.
Developing a strategy to increase the supply of non-market and affordable housing.
Reviewing municipal funding provided to external lobbying organizations, including the Urban Development Institute.
Delta First's First 90 Days Plan represents the beginning of a broader commitment to restoring trust, improving service delivery, and ensuring Delta remains a vibrant, safe, and affordable place to live, work, and raise a family.
Over the coming months, Delta First will continue engaging with residents, businesses, community organizations, and stakeholders across Delta. The team will release its comprehensive election platform in September, providing voters with a detailed vision and clear commitments for the future of our community.
"Residents deserve the opportunity to make an informed choice about the future leadership of Delta," said Granum. "Our full platform will outline the priorities, policies, and actions we believe are needed to address the challenges facing our community and build a stronger future for everyone. We look forward to presenting that vision to voters ahead of the October 17 election."
